Dame Eileen Sills – Former chief nurse and deputy chief executive, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust
“For anybody going through the agony of losing your hair I thought I would share with you my personal journey. I have been a nurse for over 40 years and the last 20 I have spent in
senior executive positions.
I have never been daunted in taking difficult decisions, but faced with managing the loss of my hair due to chemo was going to be the greatest challenge I have faced. Early planning for me was essential, I was put in touch with the charity Cancer Hair Care, who have just been fabulous.
A message to all health care professionals, hair loss as part of some chemotherapies is a given, however every patient will deal with this side effect in many different ways. There are organisations like Cancer Hair Care, who can help all patients and their families, don’t hesitate to make your patients aware that there is help out there, which can make all of this more tolerable” Dame Eileen Sills
