About the OneHead campaign
We created the #OneHead campaign to ask every cancer hospital unit and support centre to embrace diversity by displaying at least one mannequin head of darker skin colour as part of their hair loss offering.
At Cancer Hair Care we’re lucky enough to work with a diverse range of people to support them with their hair loss during cancer treatment. As a result of this, we conducted a ground-breaking study that took place over two years where we interviewed more than 200 people from diverse communities to discover how we could better support them during their cancer hair loss journey.
Through the #OneHead campaign, we have a wide range of resources available including Diversity Display Packs containing a dark-skinned mannequin head and Hair Loss Dollies in a variety of skin colours.
We have also published the Afro Hair Chemotherapy Hair Loss Guide, which is a global first and available via our website. Hair loss can be a deeply traumatic experience but it doesn’t have to be. As a charity, our founding ethos is to help all people, regardless of age, ethnicity or circumstance by offering gentle, kind and expert support when it’s needed the most.
Cancer Hair Care founder Jasmin Julia Gupta commented: “It is a great privilege to see this campaign come to fruition as it encapsulates our charity’s vital work. I can still visualise every single woman of colour who courageously shared their cancer hair loss experience with me. As we sat together, we noticed that the mannequin heads used to display head scarves and wigs were nearly always white. We hope that the #OneHead campaign helps to create positive and inclusive change for many years to come.”
